Description

LSU Health Shreveport welcomes your application for the Chair, Department of Urology in Shreveport, Louisiana. Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport (LSUHS) is an academic medical center made up of the Schools of Medicine, Allied Health Professions, and Graduate School. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join us as the Department Chair to guide our faculty, researchers, and students and direct future growth of the department in new areas of research.

The ideal Chair candidate for the Department should be a recognized leader within Urology as an outstanding clinician, educator, innovator and scholar, who supports research and education within a multi-specialty organization. The Department Chair will have ultimate responsibility for the clinical, educational, research, and fiscal oversight within the Department. Reporting to the Chancellor and Dean of LSU Health Shreveport, the Department Chair oversees establishing and ensuring Safety, Quality & Patient Experience standards for the Department of Urology across the enterprise. They shall collaborate with Institute, market, and shared services leaders to define and achieve the vision and strategic goals of Urology and LSU Health Shreveport. The Chair must ensure consistent delivery of world class patient care in Urology across the institution and provide a safe and engaging work environment for all caregivers within the Department.

Responsibilities of the chair include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a strategic vision for the department.
  • Academic Program Development: Enhance existing academic programs and explore opportunities for new programs that meet the evolving needs of students and the scientific community.
  • Research Excellence: Foster a culture of research excellence by supporting faculty in securing research grants, promoting interdisciplinary collaborations, and facilitating the publication of impactful research.
  • Faculty and Staff Development: Provide mentorship and support to faculty and staff.
  • Student Engagement: Ensure a high-quality educational experience for students by overseeing curriculum development, promoting innovative teaching methods, and facilitating opportunities for student research and internships.
  • Resource Management: Effectively manage departmental resources.

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, in conjunction with Ochsner LSU Health St. Mary, is the only major academic medical center in the area and receives patients from a catchment area with a radius of approximately 75-100 miles which includes a population of approximately 1½ million people.

Qualifications

Candidate must meet the following:

  • MD, MD/PhD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited Urology residency program.
  • Certified by the American Board of Urology and participation in continuing urologic certification.
  • Hold or able to obtain medical licensure in the State of Louisiana by start date.
  • Current medical school appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
  • Demonstrated experience with established evidence of achievements in clinical care, education, and research.
  • At least ten (10) years of clinical practice experience and a minimum of three (3) years administrative experience in an academic medical center preferred.
  • Familiarity with clinical program administration and graduate medical education required.
