The employee will hold a responsible Research Associate position in a behavioral neuropharmacology laboratory. The employee will work under general supervision and will function as assistant to the principle investigator and laboratory manager, seeing to it that the laboratory research is conducted in a timely manner according to scientific principles. The employee will be responsible for the care of and behavioral experiments conducted on laboratory animals. These behavioral experiments include injecting drugs into animals and small animal surgery. The work hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM. Additional hours may be required (exact hours should be modified as appropriate). Lunch/breaks are dictated by workflow.
Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.
Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.
Essential Position Functions and Duties:
5% - Conduct the studies within the behavioral core facility. Interact with the other laboratories that want to utilize the behavioral core.
10% - Oversee the breeding colony.
10% - Assist with regulatory compliance for the laboratory.
40% - Independently conduct acute and chronic behavioral pharmacological experiments. These experiments also involve working with personal computers.
10% - Maintain daily records of behavioral data and perform analyses of the data using personal computers.
10% - Maintain the behavioral laboratories which includes cleaning of work areas and glassware and the ordering of supplies as needed.
10% - Assist in the preparation of data for presentation and assist in the preparation of manuscripts.

Qualifications
The applicant must meet the following:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Psychology, or a related natural science field from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a behavioral pharmacology laboratory in addition to experience handling small animals, injecting drugs into animals, and small animal surgery. Experience conducting intravenous self- administration in small animals is also preferred. The successful candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills for the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and proposals. The successful candidate should possess a strong work ethic, a collaborative spirit, excellent attention to detail, and a developed capacity to manage projects.
